ABOUT HALLOWED GROUND ARTIFACTS and OUR NEW SERVICES.
My interest in the Civil War began at a very young age over 45 years ago while I was being taught American History in grammar school. After my 1st trip to Gettysburg, Antietam & Harper's Ferry as an Eagle Scout, I was hooked. Over the years, that passion spread to metal detecting. I've been a digger of Civil War artifacts for almost 25 years now and it's been an extremely rewarding hobby. It's fueled my passion for Civil War history and I've had the honor and privilege of walking on and metal detecting some truly "Hallowed Ground" with some great folks. I've made many lifelong friends while digging up our past and am humbled by all of the friendly, knowledgeable people I've met that share my love of this hobby. I can't stand to see fakes or purposely mis-id'd items being sold so we're here to help anyone who wants an item to make an informed decision. The NEW PURPOSE of Hallowed Ground Artifacts is to be a place where regular-guy collectors can come and get good, educated answers about an item they have or one they want to buy. Our ever-growing panel of very well respected members of the collecting community can be accessed free of charge to answer your questions. This website is a "work in progress" and will be fully operational as time permits. Also, I'm partnering up on this new endeavor with a well-known fake-buster and respected columnist and will be making an announcement regarding that soon. Keep checking back often...it's getting better and expanding everyday. The opinions that are offered here are just that...opinions. Our opinions will, however, be based on years of study and personal experience in the field digging the relics and on current reference books and pricing. My only rule when this all launches will be the "Golden Rule". Treat others as you wish to be treated. No personal, racial or religious attacks will be tolerated. If you're a jerk-off who doesn't play well with others and you violate this 1 simple rule, you'll disappear from here faster than a set of chrome 22's at a Puff Daddy Concert in downtown Atlanta.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank a few folks who helped me out with this website. First and foremost is my son, Kurt. He helped his old man with all of the technical computer stuff and spent hours teaching me how to use the different web-building tools. Without his work, this website would not have happened. Also, my good friend Ric Savage who helped me with the name of the website & has given me invaluable advice as well as helping me promote it correctly. Also, my dear friend Jay Collier of BlueGreyRelics in Nashville. Over the years, Jay has always been the most helpful & friendliest person I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. He is my mentor & I am truly honored to be blessed with his friendship. They just don't get any better than Jay. Another huge help is Lee Hadaway whose advice & teachings on Confederate Bowie knives has been immeasurable. Bob Kersten, who is a retired WV State policeman and a retired Sgt. Major, tirelessly sent me pictures he's taken at Gettysburg to use as did Lamar, Brian and Ryan. You can see a lot of their photography in the photos section. Thanks a million y'all!!! Last, but certainly not least, my lovely wife Ms. Lisa, who has supported all of my crazy ideas and undertakings for 35 years now.
